MA Creative Writing - An Update

Now that I am three modules in on my MA course, and am beginning to find my feet, I thought I'd share some thoughts about the jouney (so far) of being a ‘mature student’ and what it’s like to go back to being academia, albeit on a part-time basis.

Well, I've just submitted my most recent assignment, and while I wont say it’s any easier the third time round (because it isn't), hesitantly I think I may be getting the hang of feeling like this: consistently challenged.

Not just academically (as it is an entirely different way of writing), but just generally, in terms of working out why it is I write.

I'm still figuring this out, which is hard with so many ideas and projects in my head at once; knowing which to pursue and develop has always been difficult for me and the advice hasn't changed: follow your heart.

But I have a big heart and a lot of options.

Not that I'm complaining.

A reason for embarking on the course was to try and help clarify these things, and to learn the craft a little more and meet others, and this is all proving to be the case and I know am incredibly lucky and fortunate to be in such a position.

I have recently started a fresh newsletter (I like shiny things, can you tell) called The Glimmering Tide - where I aim to write about writing, the course and the various feelings and responses it provokes in me.

Please feel welcome to come over and join me there.

And of you write, or know anyone that does and you think they may be interested, please share.

Whats more, I'm thinking of starting a new writing group… ideas, ideas, ideas.
